In 2019 alone, Fandom Forward trained more than 1,000 new activists in the skills they need to be real-life heroes. Donations by fans around the world made it possible — but how did we actually do it?

The Granger Leadership Academy

GLA is our one-of-a-kind conference where fans come together with professional activists to swap skills, meet friends and mentors, and take real action to change the world.

At our last in-person convention in Philadelphia, 200 wizard activists built community as they built their skills in unique workshops about prison abolition (A World Without Azkaban), media literacy and news bias (Unpacking The Daily Prophet), fighting white supremacy (Revelio Whiteness: Unraveling The White Nationalist Fandom), and much more. At the end of the weekend, we partnered with Sunrise to make hundreds of calls protesting the building of a new fossil fuel-burning power plant in one of Philadelphia’s poorest neighborhoods.

Fandom Forward is excited to host GLA as a virtual conference for a second year in a row (with the hope to return to in-person next year!) this July 16th-18th. Pick up your ticket today, or donate to show your unwavering support for the only fan activism conference in the world.

Fan Conventions

At LeakyCon Dallas and LeakyCon Boston, we rolled out a new workshop: Stop the Snatchers, where we brought activists from RAICES, Never Again Action, and the Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network to help fans learn how to take action and join the fight for immigrant rights and safety in their community. Nearly 200 fans attended these hour-long workshops. Get a taste of the magic with the audio recording of our conversation with RAICES.

Wizard Activist School

Our entirely free, online academy helps fans boost their skills in running a meeting, mediating conflict, understanding privilege and oppression, and much more. Trainees are matched one-on-one with a facilitator who helps them work through the material at their pace. In 2019 W.A.S. delivered more than 350 trainings!

Training

Can’t make it to GLA? Training brings our exemplary GLA programming into local communities across the U.S. Last year, we led training sessions in New York, Baltimore, and Tucson, reaching more than 400 trainees! Email herotraining@fandomforward.org to find out more about bringing us to your library, school, or community.

All of our training programs boost skills, confidence, and community among fans who then work to make the world a more loving, just, and magical place. These far-reaching, impactful programs are possible only thanks to the kind donations of wizard activists and their supporters.

Become part of the magic: donate to help us train and lead more wizard activists this year and beyond!
